Keychron M5: Vertical mouse with good technology
Almost all vertical PC mice integrate mediocre hardware. Keychron takes a different approach with its M5.

The Hong Kong manufacturer Keychron is expanding its mouse portfolio. The M5 accommodates technology that is otherwise found in expensive gaming mice in a vertical housing. Such models are primarily intended to relieve strain on the wrists during long office hours.
Due to their office orientation, the vast majority of vertical mice lag behind normal models in terms of technology. In addition to sensors that could be improved, they are usually limited to a scanning rate of 125 Hertz. If a monitor displays 144 Hertz or more, the position of the mouse pointer is not even updated with every frame. Whether and to what extent you notice this is subjective.
This limitation also applies to popular models such as Logitech's MX Vertical (starting from 56,90 €). There are currently only six mice in the price comparison that can achieve more than 125 Hertz. Three of them are the same model in different colors.

)PAW3950 sensor and 8000 Hertz
The Keychron M5 features the high-end Pixart PAW3950 sensor with up to 30,000 dpi. The manufacturer goes all out with the scanning rate: With a cable connection via USB-C or wirelessly via the included 2.4 GHz dongle, the mouse reaches 8000 Hertz. It is only limited to 125 MHz via Bluetooth for technical reasons.
On the underside there are buttons for the dpi setting, sampling rate and three connection profiles for different computers. In addition to the normal mouse wheel between the two main buttons, there is a second thumb wheel.
The M5 weighs 95 grams including the built-in 600 mAh battery. The latter should last for 120 hours at a scanning rate of 1000 Hertz. The battery life decreases at a higher frequency.

Currently available via import
Interested parties can currently only purchase the M5 via Keychron's US website with shipping from Hong Kong. Including shipping, but excluding taxes, it costs 82 US dollars there, the equivalent of 75 euros. With import sales tax, this corresponds to just under 90 euros. The order cannot currently be completed in the German manufacturer's store. The scope of delivery includes a USB-C cable and several USB adapters.
Typically, German retailers also include Keychron products in their range. Alternate and Proshop, for example, sell the M6 (starting from 99,90 €). It uses similar technology to the M5, but in a housing reminiscent of Logitech's MX Master 3S (starting from 71,90 €). The M5 could become available in Germany in the next few weeks.
