Starlink will waive the purchase price of the satellite antenna of EUR 349 for customers who sign a twelve-month contract. For 50 euros a month, you get satellite internet without data or speed limits. The promotion is available in Germany, Italy, and Australia. Starlink offers a 30-day trial period during which interested parties can withdraw from the contract.
The free antenna is only available with a residential service. This tariff is intended for permanent operation at a fixed location, so it is not possible to travel around with the antenna.
Free satellite system: Further conditions
However, the twelve-month term comes with a number of conditions regarding how the antenna may be used. The service address cannot be changed, so moving and taking the antenna with you is not possible for the first year. The antenna may also not be transferred to another person, and of course, it cannot be terminated. If one of these conditions is violated, Starlink will charge a change fee of 349 euros – which is exactly the previous purchase price of the antenna. This fee decreases with each month that passes.
c't has tested the third generation Starlink antenna in detail. The price of Starlink hardware has been falling for some time now. In addition to discount campaigns at large retail chains such as Mediamarkt, Starlink is even “sold out” in some regions of Africa. Due to a lack of satellite capacity, no new contracts can be concluded there at the moment.

The fixed term ensures Starlink a reliable cash flow over a longer period of time, which may offset the costs of the transmission and reception system. It is unclear whether this action is due to concerns about profitability, as the company does not publish any business figures.
