With the Find X8 Ultra, Chinese manufacturer Oppo is pushing the boundaries of what is technically feasible. The smartphone has almost everything on board that is currently possible in terms of high-end technology.

Oppo shows Samsung what it means to build a smartphone with the suffix "Ultra". The Find X8 Ultra makes the Galaxy S25 Ultra look old in many respects. It starts with the cameras with huge sensors and ends with a massive battery with fast charging performance. Unfortunately, it will initially only be sold in China.

After the Find X8 Pro, which is currently also available to buy in Germany, Oppo is stepping up its game with the Ultra model. Thanks to its bright 6.83-inch LTPO screen with a 120-Hertz refresh rate and WQHD resolution, it is slightly larger than the Pro model, whose screen measures just 6.78 inches diagonally.

With a weight of 226 grams, it is on the same level as Xiaomi's Camera Phone 15 Ultra, with which the Oppo device competes in terms of camera features.

Speaking of the camera: four 50-megapixel sensors with Hasselblad branding are installed on the back. The wide-angle camera has a huge one-inch sensor with optical image stabilization and f/1.8 aperture. It is over 60 percent larger than the wide-angle sensors of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S25 Ultra.

As with the S25 Ultra, Oppo has installed two telephoto cameras with 3x and 6x optical magnification respectively. The 3x camera with f/3.1 aperture is also used for macro photography. The second telephoto camera with periscope technology is equipped with a 1/1.95 inch sensor. In conjunction with digital "AI zoom", the Find X8 Ultra offers up to 120x magnification. The three lenses are accompanied by an ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.0 aperture and 120-degree viewing angle as well as a chroma sensor that measures color information to help with white balance.

Based on Apple's camera control, the Find X8 Ultra has a shutter button on the side of the housing that can be used to zoom in and out using swipe gestures. Oppo has also copied the iPhone's action button: various actions can be started via a button on the left side of the housing.

Under the hood of the Find X8 Ultra is Qualcomm's top-of-the-range Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which is accompanied by up to 16 gigabytes of RAM and one terabyte of storage. Like most top Chinese models, the new Oppo model has IP68 and IP69 protection classes for protection against dust and water.

To ensure a long battery life, the relatively slim 8.78 millimeter body houses a massive 6,100 milliampere-hour silicon-carbon battery. Samsung's S25 Ultras also have a 5,000 milliampere-hour lithium-ion battery.

The Oppo device can be charged via cable – with a corresponding power supply unit – with 100 watts, wireless charging is possible with 50 watts. For comparison: Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra supports 45 watts of wired charging and 15 watts of wireless charging.

Oppo seems to have a soft spot for Apple's software, as the manufacturer makes generous use of iOS. The control center is separated from the notifications, which is now also the case with Samsung's One UI 7. However, the design of the Oppo control center looks almost exactly like Apple's.

Oppo's Find X8 Ultra can transfer data to an iPhone via an "Airdrop clone".

Interestingly, Oppo has even copied Apple's Airdrop, making it possible to transfer data between the Find X8 Ultra and iPhones when they are held together. However, this requires an additional app on the iPhone, as the Youtuber Marques "MKBHD" Brownlee explains.

It is not yet clear when or if Oppo will also offer the Find X8 Ultra outside of China. However, the manufacturer is raising the bar for future high-end smartphones – hopefully also outside of China.
