Microsoft is blocking the 24H2 update for Windows 11 on systems with known incompatibilities. If the problems have been resolved, Microsoft will remove the blockade set for this using a Safeguard ID. This is now also the case for software for customizing the desktop appearance.
In the Windows Release Health notes, Microsoft's developers have now explained that Safeguard IDs will be gradually removed on systems running desktop wallpaper customization software. As a result, the 24H2 update will be offered and can be installed.
Windows 11 24H2: Compatibility issues with wallpaper apps
"After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, some wallpaper customization apps may not launch or work properly. Several applications are affected, and symptoms include wallpapers not displaying properly, icons disappearing from the desktop, desktop preview functionality being lost, issues with virtual desktops, or error messages being displayed by the application," Microsoft describes the error pattern that occurs. The Safeguard ID that can be managed for this in Windows Update for Business, for example, is 52754008.

Microsoft is now gradually removing this blocker using the Safeguard ID. "If you try to install version 24H2 using Windows Update, Windows 11 Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool, you may see a message asking you to uninstall the Wallpaper app," Microsoft's developers explain. "We also recommend updating the affected apps as they may be compatible with the applied updates. Or you can uninstall them. Once you have done this, you can complete the installation of version 24H2."
Various wallpaper apps are currently affected by the compatibility blockade. Therefore, the exact timing on specific devices depends on the installed app and the timing of the app update. As developers release new versions and updates of the affected apps, Microsoft expects the issues to be resolved.
A week ago, Microsoft had to acknowledge problems with the 24H2 update with the Senseshield protection software, a copy protection solution. The company had to reset an update blockade to ensure the stability of affected systems.
