Cinema-quality videos – Google promises to deliver this with Veo 2. However, the AI-generated clips can only be up to eight seconds long – in 720p resolution and as an MP4 file in 16:9 format. The AI video generator is now available for people with an Advanced Gemini account on their smartphone and for Google One AI Premium subscribers.
The videos can be uploaded and sent directly to social networks on the smartphone using the share button, and a public link can also be created. This can be used to embed the videos on websites or send the link by email.

To generate a video, simply enter a prompt. A single scene or a kind of short story is described. Other options for entering text will follow, such as using a photo or another template to create a video based on it.
Veo 2 with watermarks and guard rails
“Thanks to an improved understanding of physical laws and human movement behavior, it enables fluid character animations,” writes Google. This makes scenes more authentic and detailed. The videos are marked as AI-generated using SynthID – a digital watermark.
Google also says that extensive security measures have been taken. Not everything you can think of can be generated. Elon Musk's xAI and Meta recently declared that their AI models have hardly any barriers or guard rails. OpenAI also struck a similar note, claiming that it had lifted “arbitrary restrictions”. Many people see the reason for this as pressure from the new US government under Donald Trump, who has labeled the big tech companies as politically too far to the left. Google does not comment on this in the blog post.
