The company Limited Run Games is offering a new collector's edition of the classic shooters “Doom” and “Doom 2”, which comes with several gimmicks. The main attraction of the 666 US dollar package: a box with a display on which you can play “Doom”.
This collector's box comes with a USB port that can be used to connect a controller. You can then start playing directly on the display. Because a good idea can also be used twice, the collector's edition from Limited Run Games also includes a small handheld cacodemon, which is also equipped with a display and the ability to play “Doom”.
Fittingly, the new collector's edition of the “Doom” games is called the “Will it Run” edition. It was created in collaboration with Bethesda and also includes other physical goodies such as trading cards and cassettes with the “Doom” soundtrack.
Digital improvements
On the digital side, there are reworked “Doom” games that should run natively at 60 FPS in Full HD resolution. Included are “Doom” and “Doom 2” for the platform of choice – Switch, PS5, Xbox, or PC. Several additional “Doom” levels are also included, including the “Sigil” missions from John Romero himself. Mods can be activated directly in the games via a new mod browser.

The “Will it Run” collector's edition of “Doom” can be pre-ordered from April 18, but is limited to 666 units and is quite expensive at a price of 666 US dollars. However, if you fancy a data carrier “Doom” and appreciate the technical tweaks, there is also a cheaper alternative: the standard edition without physical additions costs just 30 US dollars, but is not available as a PC version. There is a big box edition for 100 US dollars, which is also available as a PC version.
For years, modders have made it their project to make “Doom” run on all possible platforms, systems, and devices. Most recently, two programmers managed to launch “Doom” as a PDF.
