Some Pixel Watch models had not received an update since November 2024, while Google skipped the March update for others. With the now announced April update for Wear OS (BP1A.250305.019.W8), the manufacturer wants to bring all models – i.e. the Pixel Watch 1, 2 and 3 – back to a software version.
Android 15: Wear OS 5.1 for all Pixel Watch models
As Google explains, the Pixel Watch models that have not received an update since November 2024 and are still running Wear OS 5 based on Android 14 will receive the major update to software version Wear OS 5.1. This is based on Android 15. The Wear OS version was released in March 2025 and includes, among other things, improved media control.
The Wear OS 5.1 update also includes an extended algorithm for step count measurement for all models, which should enable more precise values to be recorded when pushing children's or shopping carts. With the April patch, however, the new step algorithm will be removed again, as users had detected step counts that were too high. Users who already received an update at the beginning of April will receive another update that also removes the new algorithm.

In addition, an automatic bedtime mode, which Google introduced with the Watch 3, is being introduced for the Pixel Watch 2. The Watch 3 will also receive a cycle tracking function via the Fitbit app.
The update will be distributed to all users over the coming weeks. The Android security patch from March 5, 2025 will be retained after installation.
The update process can be initiated by tapping "Up to date" several times on the screen under Settings > System > System updates. To speed up the process, Bluetooth should be deactivated in the connection settings so that the watch uses Wi-Fi.
