Edge 60 Pro: Motorola's mid-range with a large battery and lots of AI
Motorola has announced two new mid-range smartphones. The Moto Edge 60 and Edge Pro shine with large batteries, moderate prices and AI functions.

Like its predecessors, Motorola's new Edge 60 family is a real eye-catcher: both models come in different Pantone colors and with case backs inspired by leather and nylon. The models are also among the first in their price range to feature a 6.77-inch pOLED screen with 120 Hz that is slightly curved on all four sides to create a frameless effect.

Aside from the looks, the new models have other features that are more likely to be found in more expensive models. For example, the Edge 60 Pro has a massive 6,000 mAh battery that can be charged with 90 watts via a cable. The smartphone supports wireless charging with 15 watts.

The Edge 60 has a slightly smaller battery with 5,200 mAh and 68 watts of charging power. Wireless charging does not appear to be on board.
Motorola uses a Dimensity 8350 Extreme processor from MediaTek for the Edge 60 Pro. The company has not revealed the extent to which the "Extreme" addition is noticeable compared to the normal version of the mid-range SoC. The simple Edge 60 uses a slightly weaker MediaTek Dimensity 7300.
The Edge 60 and 60 Pro processors are optionally accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of flash memory. The simple model even offers memory expansion via a microSD card slot.
50 MP wide angle for both Edge 60 models
For the rear camera module, the manufacturer has installed a 50 MP wide-angle camera with optical image stabilization and Sony's LYTIA-700C sensor, a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera with triple optical zoom in both models. The models also share the 50 MP selfie camera.

The devices are protected in accordance with military standard MIL-STD-810H as well as IP69 and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The IP69 protection class has so far only been found in more expensive smartphones or outdoor models and is also designed to protect against contact with hot water under high pressure.
Software: Moto AI meets Android 15 and Perplexity
When it comes to software, Motorola is putting a little more AI into its Edge models. The manufacturer's AI package, known as Moto AI, includes new functions such as "Next Move", "Playlist Studio", "Image Studio" and "Look and Talk". However, according to the manufacturer, the latter feature is only available for the Razr 60 Ultra.
The option to transfer content to your own smart home ecosystem using voice or text commands in natural language sounds interesting: the command "Show me photos on my TV" is intended to stream an app to a larger display.

Motorola is also working with AI developers such as Google, Meta, Microsoft and Perplexity to "offer integrated features and give users a choice of agents". Perplexity's AI-supported search is directly integrated into Moto AI, and Microsoft's Copilot can also be accessed. Google's Gemini acts as the standard assistant.

Motorola's update promise is a little short: The Edge 60 models will only receive three major Android updates and four years of security patches. From June 20, five years of updates are mandatory for new devices throughout the EU from the end of sale.
Motorola charges 430 euros for the normal Edge 60 and just under 600 euros for the Edge 60 Pro. These are good prices for the features on offer, although the manufacturer is stingy with updates. Mid-range devices in this price category, such as the Galaxy A56 or Pixel 9a from Samsung and Google, are better positioned here.
