Following a massive cyberattack, the website, and service portal of the state of Berlin are once again available under the domain berlin.de. “Occasional” restrictions may still occur, the Senate Chancellery announced in Berlin on Tuesday morning. There has been no outflow of data and there are no indications as to who carried out the attack.

The websites of the state and the IT Service Center Berlin had been offline since Friday afternoon. When asked, the Senate Chancellery spoke of an “overload attack”, i.e., a “distributed denial of service” (DDoS) attack. According to our observations, the berlin.de website was inaccessible at all on Friday afternoon and Saturday and only partially accessible on Sunday.

The restored status website status.berlin.de, which is currently no longer accessible, reported on the weekend that the city's intranet and various subdomains of berlin.de were also affected. Numerous information and digital services such as booking appointments with public offices were therefore not possible.
