Nintendo aims to sell 15 million Switch 2s by March 2026. This was announced by the company when it announced its business figures. The Japanese company's financial year ends on March 31, 2026. The Switch 2 goes on sale on June 15.
Further details on how Nintendo arrived at this figure are not available. It is therefore unclear whether Nintendo considers demand or production capacity to be the limiting factor in the Switch 2 sales figures. Nintendo expects the first Switch to sell 4.5 million units during this period.
Switch 1 will continue to be sold
Due to the large player base, the Switch 1 will still be ahead, especially in game sales, according to Nintendo: Nintendo expects 105 million games to be sold for the Switch 2, while the forecast for the Switch 2 is for only 45 million games to be sold. Overall, Nintendo remains quite down-to-earth with its predictions – Some analysts are expecting higher sales figures.
With an RRP of 470 euros, the Switch 2 is considerably pricier than the Switch 1, which was launched at a recommended retail price of 330 euros. In practice, the Switch 2 has been even a little pricier in many online stores since its launch. The console was also frequently sold out. The console can now also be pre-ordered directly from Nintendo.

In the USA, Nintendo had to temporarily pause pre-orders of the Switch 2 in order to prepare a strategy for the Trump government's import tariffs. In the end, however, the Switch 2 was also available for pre-order in the United States at the previously communicated price of 450 US dollars. Meanwhile, some accessories became more expensive.

As early as April, Nintendo prepared its customers for possible bottlenecks in the delivery of ordered consoles: In both the USA and Japan, the company published text sections indicating a potentially longer wait for the new console. "We're excited about the enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2," Nintendo wrote on its US website. "However, due to very high demand", delivery by June 5 cannot be guaranteed.
