Chinese tech company Lenovo has unveiled its first humanoid robot, LeXiang No. 1, at Tech World 2025 in Shanghai. The robot is said to have embodied and artificial intelligence (AI), which should make it an "intelligent assistant", reports Technode. The robot will initially be used in the service sector.
Lenovo intends to expand its business beyond hardware. Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing hinted at this at the presentation of the LeXiang No. 1. The core of Lenovo's business could become "intelligent agents" that support people in all situations. These could also be embodied humanoid robots such as the LeXiang No. 1.
During a demonstration, the approximately 1 m tall robot showed off its capabilities. It displayed extremely smooth movements and demonstrated its embodied intelligence.
Integration into the Lenovo ecosystem
More importantly, however, the robot should also be able to perform demanding business tasks. To this end, Lenovo has developed a three-layer framework that allows the robot to interact with devices and use data within the Lenovo ecosystem. This should enable it to complete tasks autonomously. Lenovo promises that it will adhere to strict security and data protection protocols.
Lenovo has demonstrated how this works using a practical example. The robot was able to access comprehensive business data from Lenovo and answer questions in natural language.
First, however, Lenovo wants LeXiang No. 1 to take part in the Beijing Humanoid Robot Sports Competition in August 2025, a newly created competition in which humanoid robots have to compete against each other in various disciplines such as gymnastics and soccer and demonstrate their agile skills.
