Google's AI image-to-video generator lands first on new Honor smartphones
Honor may exclusively offer Google's new picture-to-AI function on its 400 smartphone series, which will be released in a few days. But only for a short time.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor will be the first to use a new Google AI feature on its upcoming smartphones. This can be used to conjure up short, animated videos from images.
Samsung has often taken advantage of new AI functions from Google. Google's new image-to-video AI generator is different: it will land on Honor devices first. The feature will initially be pre-installed on the Honor 400 or 400 Pro, which will be announced on May 22.
Honor's image-to-video AI is based on Veo 2
The new AI tool, which is based on Google's Veo 2, can create five-second videos in portrait or landscape format from static images. The AI takes around 1 to 2 minutes to create.

According to the manufacturer, the function is integrated directly into the gallery app of the new Honor devices and, according to The Verge, is simple: unlike the paid version of Veo 2, there is no option to use an additional text prompt. One has to hope that the AI does something useful with the template.

Honors image-to-video AI only free for a short time
Honors picture-to-video AI can only be used free of charge for a limited time, as can be read on the smartphone's product page. It can only be tried out free of charge for 2 months and is also limited to 10 videos per day. Thereafter, a subscription from Google is required.
The picture-to-video AI will be part of the AI video tool Veo 2, which Google integrated into the paid Gemini Advanced subscription in mid-April. Veo 2 can already be used to create AI-generated clips up to eight seconds long in 720p resolution as MP4 files in 16:9 format using a text prompt. In the course of the announcement, Google had already stated that further input options would follow, such as using a photo or other template to create a video based on it.
Given that Honor is only using it exclusively for a short period of time, the image-to-video AI should soon be available to paying customers in the Gemini app.
