At Microsoft's Build 2025 developer conference, the company announced a new function for the Edge browser. It is designed to make PDF documents as easy to translate as a website.
Microsoft Edge: Translate PDF documents like websites
Although PDF documents are widely used, the document format itself is considered inflexible and difficult to edit. Microsoft now wants to change this, at least in part, by making it easier than ever to translate them via the Edge browser.
Until now, only individual passages of a PDF file could be laboriously translated in the Edge browser. To do this, you have to select the text, right-click on it and select the “Translate selection” option. This opens a window on the right-hand side of the browser in which the passage is recognized and translated.

The new function, which Microsoft plans to release in June, will make the process easier. The Edge browser will be able to “translate entire pages of PDFs from more than 70 languages”, the company explained at the Build developer conference. It goes on to say: “With just a few clicks, users can open a PDF in Edge, click the Translate icon in the Edge address bar and quickly create a new document that is fully translated into the language of their choice.”

According to Microsoft, the function will be available in the Canary version of Microsoft Edge. The company promises that the function will be available in the final version of the browser from June.
Microsoft also announced all kinds of other things at the Build conference. Among other things, the company held out the prospect of an “AI Internet”, which is to be realized with AI agents.
