"Elden Ring" is being made into a movie

“Elden Ring” is coming to film: Publisher Bandai Namco and A24 have now jointly announced that production studio A24 wants to make a movie of FromSoftware's Soulslike in collaboration with director Alex Garland. Further information on the content and a possible release date is not yet available. Garland has written and filmed “Ex Machina”, among others, and was most recently responsible for the films “Civil War” and “Warfare”.

The press release refers to a “live-action film”, i.e., a live-action adaptation with actors. George R. R. Martin, who was involved in the creation of the “Elden Ring” universe, will also act as co-producer for the film adaptation, it is also stated.

'Elden Ring' is an action role-playing game from studio FromSoftware that will be released in 2022 and continues the tradition of its previous games such as 'Dark Souls' and 'Sekiro'. Unlike FromSoftware's previous games, however, “Elden Ring” is set in an open game world that offers more freedom to explore and more paths through the game.

More background than story

Elden Ring is best known for its world design and boss battles. The game's story is vague and mysterious – - another FromSoftware tradition. However, there is a rich background story to discover about the “Interlands” in which “Elden Ring” is set. You can also learn a lot about the various creatures and bosses you encounter. FromSoftware doesn't necessarily put this information in the foreground, however, but rather hides it in the descriptions of items, for example.

So despite the nebulous main story of “Elden Ring”, there is a lot of material from which a fantasy film could be polished.

Meanwhile, FromSoftware is also continuing the universe in video game form: “Elden Ring Nightrein”, a co-op spin-off set in the “Elden Ring” world, will be released on May 30.
