The “spexor” sensor advertised by Bosch as a “mobile alarm system” will soon be unusable. Bosch is pulling the plug on the cloud servers – and therefore also on the devices, which will no longer work as a result.
Bosch has now announced this on the spexor website. Bosch will shut down the spexor servers on July 1, 2025. This means that neither the spexor device nor the app can be used, regardless of whether via Wi-Fi or mobile communications. “This means that no use is possible,” Bosch clearly states.
Further consequences of the shutdown
The subscriptions for the eSIM, fire gas detection, pollen count and outdoor air quality services will expire on June 30, 2025. Bosch will no longer allow renewals. To comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Bosch will “irrevocably” delete all data as of July 1, 2025 – Bosch provides a FAQ for those affected and answers frequently asked questions. For example, how customers can dispose of the spexor, which has been degraded to electronic waste: “spexor must not be disposed of with household waste”, the device can be “handed in to appropriate return or collection systems for proper disposal”.
In response to our specific question whether there is the possibility and support to move spexor to your cloud environment, Bosch replied: “Unfortunately, there is no technical possibility to continue operating Bosch spexor elsewhere. We are therefore unfortunately unable to provide affected customers with support for continued operation outside the Bosch cloud.”

c't has ordered a spexor and is investigating whether the end is really as irrevocable as Bosch claims. It may be possible to find a way to integrate spexor into your smart home environment – even without the Bosch cloud servers.
Devices that providers only offer together with cloud services often become a problem when manufacturers switch off the cloud services. In May 2023, for example, Deutsche Telekom cut off the cloud connection to its smart speaker. Nevertheless, a firmware update for the speaker allows it to continue operating as a non-smart Bluetooth speaker – without voice control and internet services.
