A few days before the market launch of the Switch 2, the first video snippets and images showing the console were circulating online. The Switch 2 has now landed at retailers, where it is generally well guarded – However, it is difficult to prevent a few copies from somehow ending up in the hands of well-connected or simply lucky users without authorization.
Some videos have already been removed or blocked. On X, for example, you can still see a short clip of a user opening what appears to be a genuine Switch 2 box. None of this is particularly spectacular, but it is still causing excitement among the eagerly anticipating community on Reddit, for example.
Not playable until the first patch
Apparently, the Switch 2 cannot be used yet: at least according to the scattered reports from advance users, no games can be started with the Switch 2 until a Day 1 patch is released. In this way, Nintendo is apparently ensuring that at least no clips from video games end up on the net in advance.
But this also has a downside: Nintendo is not giving press representatives advance access to the games console, according to a report by The Game Business. Many major media outlets are therefore unlikely to have a test ready for the market launch of the Switch 2. Even if members of the press get their hands on a Switch 2 in advance, they will not be able to test it until the Day 1 patch. For prospective buyers who want to wait for independent test reports, this means a longer wait.

In any case, it is becoming apparent that the Switch 2 is likely to sell extremely well at market launch. Pre-order options were regularly exhausted by buyers, and the Switch 2 pre-order contingents were even booked out from time to time. In the USA and Japan, Nintendo has published text sections indicating a potentially longer waiting time for the new console.
