With Android 16 and One UI 8, Samsung is apparently moving faster than with the massively delayed update to One UI 7. Users of a Galaxy S25, S25 Plus or S25 Ultra in Germany, South Korea, the USA, and the UK can register their device for the new beta.
Among other things, the update focuses on a “true multimodal AI agent developed for various Samsung Galaxy form factors”, according to the statement.
One UI 8: Samsung introduces new release cycle
As Samsung explains, it was able to accelerate the development of the new software platform through a close exchange with Google, making it one of the first companies to bring Android to its customized user interface.
Google said last year, when it announced the early release of Android 16, that the new release period would “better align with the launch schedule” of devices across Google's ecosystem. This would allow more devices to receive the major version of Android earlier.
The first devices to receive One UI 8 from the factory at Samsung are the Galaxy Z series foldables, which are expected later in July. Samsung also says that the update will introduce a new rhythm for Samsung's software development with important UX and AI updates.
One UI 8 with more multimodal AI
The update is intended to expand the AI functions introduced with the Galaxy S25. Samsung also says that, in addition to multimodal capabilities, the user interface will be “tailored” for different form factors and the user will receive “personalized, proactive suggestions”.

Samsung also promises that the functions introduced with One UI 7, such as Now Bar and Now Brief, will display “more personalized insights and suggestions”. Among other things, users can expect the live update function announced by Google.
One UI 8 brings Android 16 function Auracast
According to Samsung, other new One UI 8 functions include the Bluetooth LE-based broadcast audio technology Auracast. This is natively integrated into Android 16 and enables multiple Auracast-enabled devices to be connected to one source. The audio connection can be established by scanning and sharing QR codes, eliminating the need for cumbersome pairing.

The Reminder app has been updated with the update. It is designed to simplify operation and support voice control. Tasks can also be shared at the touch of a button. According to Samsung, Quick Share will also be simplified: with a tap on the Quick Share button in the quick settings, files can be sent and received immediately.
Samsung also wants to simplify customer support in repair centers by linking One UI 8 QR and NFC support to the Samsung account. The QR code or NFC eliminates the need to fill out registration forms to shorten waiting times and simplify service requests.
Owners of one of the Galaxy S25 models mentioned can register their device for the beta program in the Members app.
