Neuralink has completed another round of financing. The company has raised 600 million US dollars, as reported by the US online news service Semafor, citing sources with insider knowledge.
Even before the capital inflow, Neuralink was worth 9 billion US dollars. It is not clear from the Semafor report who the investors are.
The US business news agency Bloomberg already reported on the financing round in April. There was still talk of 500 million US dollars in additional capital and a valuation of 8.5 billion US dollars.
Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, has developed a brain-computer interface (BCI) that makes it possible to control a computer with brain waves. In 2023, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the US authority responsible for approving new medical developments, allowed the BCI to be tested on humans. In January 2024, the first BCI was implanted in a paraplegic man. In August, a second patient received a BCI.

The company is not without controversy: During the development of the system, Neuralink had carried out experiments with monkeys. Critics accused the company of cruelty to animals. In addition, the electrodes in the brain of the first patient became detached from the nerve cells. Neuralink is said to have been aware of this problem from the animal experiments.
