Windows Update Preview: Small improvements and Copilot additions

Microsoft has published the non-security-related Windows update components as a preview for the upcoming June update. Windows will receive many small corrections and improvements. The enhancement of Copilot also stands out.

Microsoft announces the availability of the update previews in the Windows Message Center . For Windows 11 24H2, the KB number of the update is KB5058499 and raises the version number to 26100.4202, while for Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2 it is KB5058502, with version numbers 22621.5413 and 22631.5413 after the update.

Microsoft is highlighting some additions for Copilot. "Ask Copilot" is a new function of "Click to do". The function is available as a context menu for text selections or selected image areas and then opens the selection with an AI prompt. The downside: this function will not be available in the EU until later. The Copilot can now be opened with the key combination "Windows" and "C", the combination can be individually adjusted in the "Settings" under "Personalization" – "Text input". If you press the Copilot key or the key combination for two seconds, Copilot opens in voice input mode. It can be closed again by pressing the Escape key or remaining silent for several seconds.

Mouse settings, which were previously only accessible via the old Control Panel, can now be found in the "Settings" under "Accessibility" – "Mouse pointer and touch input". Working with OneDrive should now work across all devices. If a document was edited there within five minutes before the Windows desktop PC was unlocked, a notification will ask whether you want to continue working in the document where you left off.

Microsoft plans to roll out some of these improvements gradually. However, some corrections will be available to everyone immediately after installing the update preview. For example, a correction for BitLocker on removable media such as USB sticks. Blue screens could occur during use, especially after waking up from sleep mode or resuming after hybrid boots. In the advanced camera settings, switching between basic camera mode and multi-app mode could result in unlocking with facial recognition in Windows Hello not working.
