AVM announces outdoor repeater and three new Wi-Fi 7 Fritzboxes

The Fritzboxes 7630 and 7632 are intended for DSL connections, the 4630 does without a modem. The Fritz repeater 1610 Outdoor is robust.

AVM is presenting new routers and a Fritz repeater for outdoor use at the Anga Com network trade fair in Cologne. The two sister models Fritzbox 7630 and 7632 are designed for use with DSL connections. The 7630 model is capable of supervectoring (VDSL) with up to 300 Mbps, while the Fritzbox 7632 also supports G.fast up to 1 Gbps.

The Fritzbox 4630 comes without an integrated modem. AVM provides it as an additional device behind a provider modem, whether fiber optic, DSL or cable.

All three routers are capable of Wi-Fi 7, only on 2.4 and 5 GHz, but not in the 6 GHz band, which has been available for some time. Using two MIMO streams, they achieve a gross 2880 Mbit/s in the 5 GHz band and 690 Mbit/s in the 2.4 GHz range. A core function of Wi-Fi 7 is the so-called Multi-Link Operation (MLO), with which the router sends data to a receiver simultaneously via several bands.

In this respect, the Fritzbox 4630 is ahead of its already available 4690 sister (starting from 249,99 €): the latter only supports Wi-Fi 7 in the 5 GHz band and therefore does not support MLO. On the other hand, the Fritzbox 4630 has to make do with slower Ethernet sockets and only transmits via two MIMO streams. Instead of 10 Gbit/s, there is one WAN and LAN connection each with 2.5 Gbit/s. Two additional LAN ports transmit 1 Gbit/s.

The two Fritzboxes 7630 and 7632 also make do with a maximum of 2.5 Gbit/s on a LAN/WAN combination connection. Three other ports are limited to 1 Gbit/s.

All three models each have a USB-A port (USB 3.2 Gen 1, formerly known as USB 3.0, 5 Gbit/s), e.g. for printers, data carriers or mobile phone sticks. The usual functions such as DECT telephony, smart home integration via DECT ULE and the latest FritzOS are included.

The Fritz repeater 1610 Outdoor is IP54-certified for outdoor use. This means it is protected against rain and dust, but must not be immersed in water. It makes do with Wi-Fi 6 in the 5 GHz (2400 Mbit/s) and 2.4 GHz (600 Mbit/s) bands. Practical for outdoors: It receives its operating power via the Ethernet cable (Power over Ethernet, PoE+), so no power plug and power supply unit are required. AVM emphasizes that the repeater works with any router, including those from other manufacturers.

AVM is currently not commenting on the delivery dates and prices of the new Fritzboxes and the Fritz Repeater 1610. Product images are not yet available.

The Fritz Mesh Set 4200 is now available in two versions with either two (starting from 284 €) or three Fritz Repeaters 3000 AX (starting from 368 €). These also work with routers from other manufacturers.
