With the title “Meet the Next Chapter of Ultra” and the animation of a schematically depicted foldable, Samsung announces the imminent presentation of a new generation of foldables. Among other things, this is apparently characterized by a more compact and slimmer form factor, and thus seems to continue the slimming of its devices that began with the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Galaxy Z Fold 7: Samsung promises an “ultra” experience
As the company writes in its announcement, it has been listening to users' wishes for years and has created larger screens, better cameras and new ways to connect and create. The demand from users is clear that an “Ultra experience” goes beyond a list of improved features in a smaller form factor.
Samsung promises “industry-leading hardware, performance and artificial intelligence in a foldable format”. Apart from that, the next foldable generation should have features on board that users could expect from a “Galaxy Ultra”. However, according to leaker Max Jambor, it will not be called Ultra. The company already uses the Ultra brand in smartphones, watches, and notebooks.

The animation suggests that the next Galaxy Z Fold will be slimmer than the previous foldables. Although Samsung has not yet provided any information on the dimensions, if the leak from Onleaks and Android Headlines is to be believed, the Z Fold 7 could be just 4.5 mm thick when unfolded. For comparison: The Oppo Find N5, currently the thinnest foldable, is 4.2 mm thick and the Magic V3 from Honor measures 4.4 mm. Samsung could be on the way to keeping up with the competition, as the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 5.6 mm thick.
However, the competition's slimming diet is not over: Vivo recently revealed that the soon-to-be-released Vivo X Fold 5 will weigh just 219 grams and thus only weigh as much as a conventional smartphone. The current Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 20 grams heavier at 239 grams, although the soon-to-be-released successor is also likely to weigh a little less.
Samsung also promises that the next Fold will have a “powerful camera”. The rear camera is traditionally a weakness of foldable smartphones, as the lower height offers less space for large sensors.

Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and FE model expected
If current rumors are to be believed, Samsung is planning a Galaxy Z Flip 7 and a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE in addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 for the next Galaxy Unpacked event. Samsung could also unveil new wearables at the event: The rumor mill is talking about a Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic and a Galaxy Watch Ultra.
Although the company is teasing the launch of the “Ultra” foldable, it has not yet given an official date for the event. Looking at Samsung's past summer events, the next Galaxy Unpacked could be scheduled for the beginning of July.
