Six weeks after the launch of “Oblivion Remastered”, the first patch has been released: Bethesda and Virtuos have released update 1.1 as a beta on Steam. The full release and a separately developed second patch will follow later, the developers announced.

“Oblivion Remastered” was released with numerous bugs and other technical glitches. Many players hoped that Bethesda and Virtuos would tackle these problems quickly. But days turned into weeks – without even a sign from the developers that any solutions were being worked on.

Now patch 1.1 addresses some of the biggest bugs, including numerous causes of crashes, freezes and endless loading screens. Bethesda has published the complete patch notes on its website. It also contains solutions for some obvious gameplay issues, such as the broken 3rd person animation when mounting a horse. Furthermore, when you are in dungeons and other indoor areas, the world map no longer opens by default, but the local map instead.

Patch 1.1 can currently only be downloaded as a beta on Steam. To achieve this, right-click on the game in the Steam library and select “Properties”. Then navigate to the “Betas” window and select the “beta — beta” option under the “Beta participation” menu item. The finished patch will be released for all platforms on June 11th – and the additional steps will no longer be necessary on Steam. But be careful: Installed mods may no longer work properly after the update.

According to Bethesda, the “Oblivion Remastered” team is also working on a second patch to improve performance in general. Details are still pending, but there is potential for improvement: “Oblivion Remastered” not only suffers from low frame rates in the open game world, even with the graphics options turned down, but above all from uneven frame pacing, which manifests itself in clearly noticeable stutters during gameplay. “We will share more details as soon as we can,” writes Bethesda about this second patch.
