Fire TV Omni Mini-LED: Amazon presents its most expensive smart TVs to date
Amazon presents three new smart TVs with integrated Fire TV. They use VA panels with mini LEDs.

Amazon's Fire TV Omni QLED smart TV series is followed by the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED series. The name is derived from the display technology used: the newcomers feature VA panels with a Quantum Dot layer and mini LED backlighting. The panels probably come from the Chinese manufacturer TCL.
The Fire TVs Omni Mini-LED come in three sizes: 55, 65 and 75 inches. All display 3840 × 2160 pixels (4K, Ultra HD). The displays show up to 120 frames per second as standard. However, there is also a gaming mode that increases the refresh rate to 144 hertz. Variable refresh rates (VRR) are possible via HDMI 2.1 – Amazon advertises certification according to AMD's Freesync Premium Pro. The TVs also support the Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) of HDMI 2.1 to reduce input latency, for example with a console gamepad. All models have four HDMI connections, including two 2.1 connections.
High brightness
Amazon puts the maximum brightness of all three models at 1400 candela per square meter (cd/m², also known as nits). The number of dimmable mini LED zones differs depending on the size: the 55-inch model has 512, the 65-inch model has 768 and the top model with 75 inches has 960 zones. The smaller the zones, the better HDR content with high contrasts looks. The televisions support the Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive formats.
VA (Vertical Alignment) technology displays brighter colors than the widely used IPS (In-Plane Switching) screens, but is less stable in terms of viewing angle. If you look at the TV at an angle, you will see different colors.
On the sound side, Amazon has integrated two standard speakers and a small subwoofer at the back. This should make movies and series sound less tinny. A nice feature for people with ASHA-capable hearing aids: The smart TVs can stream the sound directly to the hearing aids.
As usual, Amazon pre-installs its own Fire TV operating system. The hardware supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

High prices
The prices are steep: the 55-inch version of the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED costs 1000 euros. Amazon charges 65 euros for the 65-inch model and 1900 euros for the 75-inch model. Amazon is thus entering the premium class. TCL's own 75MQLED85 (starting from 1239,99 €) costs only half as much. Amazon plans to start delivery in mid-July.
