"War For Westeros": "Age of Empires" im "Game of Thrones"-Universum
The "Game of Thrones" universe is once again being turned into a video game: "War for Westeros" will be a strategy game in the style of "Age of Empires".

Strategy in Westeros: Australian studio Playside has announced "Game of Thrones: War For Westeros", an RTS game set in George R. R. Martin's fantasy universe. A largely meaningless render trailer was shown at the Summer Game Fest, in which well-known characters such as Jon Snow and Jamie Lannister make an appearance. The designs of the characters and units are taken 1:1 from the HBO series.
More exciting is a developer video published at the same time, in which the first gameplay scenes can actually be seen. In the maps, "War For Westeros" is apparently played like classic RTS strategy in the style of "Age of Empires" or, even more aptly, "Battle for Middle-Earth 2". So not only are soldiers controlled, but buildings are also placed, which apparently mine resources and unlock units.

World map with diplomacy and intrigue
In addition to these RTS maps, "Game of Thrones: War For Westeros" will also feature a world map that is somewhat reminiscent of the "Total War" games. Diplomacy and intrigue will play an important role there, the developers explain in their dev diary. The extent to which the world map interacts with the RTS battles remains to be seen.
Overall, however, the combination should make it possible to tell your own "Game of Thrones" story. The strategy game therefore does not follow the events from the books or the series, but offers a certain degree of freedom.

You will be able to control a total of six houses, including the expected Stark, Targaryen and Lannister factions. But you will also be able to play the Night King's zombie armies. The release is scheduled for sometime next year, but there is no price point yet. The game will be released exclusively for PC.

Developer Playside describes itself as the largest studio in Australia. The team's portfolio is quite small: Playside is best known for the strategy game "Age of Darkness: Final Stand", which was inspired by "They Are Billions". Playside is also the publisher of the comic shooter "MOUSE: P.I. For Hire".
