Meta and nDreams have unveiled two promising VR titles that are set to be released this year. While Marvel fans can look forward to a bloody Deadpool experience, "Reach" promises VR bombast with adventure cinema flair.
Deadpool slips into virtual reality for the first time
During this year's Summer Games Fest, Meta announced a new VR adventure featuring the mercenary with the big mouth. "Marvel's Deadpool VR" will be released exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S and developed by Twisted Pixel in collaboration with Oculus Studios and Marvel Games. The title is set to be launched this year, but there is no specific date yet.
According to developer studio Twisted Pixel, VR fans can expect a wild mix of parkour action and bloody, creative battles. A first trailer provides an insight into the gameplay, the comic-like cel-shading look and, of course, the crude humor of the VR adventure.

New story, new voice
"Marvel's Deadpool VR" does not take up a story familiar from comics or movies, but aims to score points with a new story. In it, Deadpool is drawn through a portal to Mojoworld, where he senses an opportunity to get rich. After signing a questionable contract, his journey takes him through various locations in the Marvel universe, where he also encounters well-known villains.
Anyone familiar with Deadpool from the three-part Hollywood adaptation with Ryan Reynolds will have to adjust. Meta was able to recruit Neil Patrick Harris, who is best known in Germany for his role as Barney Stinson in "How I Met Your Mother", to voice the quirky character.
Deadpool is now the third comic book hero that Meta has licensed for the Quest ecosystem. Until recently, "Batman: Arkham Shadows" was a free gift with the purchase of a new Quest 3 or Quest 3S. Previously, Oculus Studios had also licensed "Iron Man VR" by Batman studio Camouflaj, which was originally developed exclusively for PSVR.

Reach: playable popcorn cinema in VR
In addition to "Deadpool VR", there was another major VR announcement on the weekend. nDreams presented its next big action adventure for the first time at the Future Games Show. "Reach" is also set to be released in 2025 for Meta Quest, PSVR 2 and PC VR and requires full physical exertion.
Players embark on a dangerous journey as a heroine against her will to discover the secrets of an underground civilization. This involves climbing in dizzying caves, close and long-range combat and wild chases.

In addition to the cinematic staging, Reach stands out in the announcement trailer primarily due to its graphics and interaction options. "We wanted to create an action-adventure game where players feel present, powerful and in complete control of every action", explained Glenn Brace, Studio Director at nDreams Elevation.
At last year's Gamescom, we were able to try out the first prototype build. It shone with outstanding lighting effects, challenging climbing passages and physics-based environmental puzzles. If the finished VR game manages to confirm this initial impression, VR fans are in for a potential VR hit with "Reach".
