Microsoft: Windows 11-24H2 update replaced by out-of-sequence update

The security updates from the June Patchday have apparently led to compatibility problems under Windows 11 24H2. Microsoft therefore stopped the update on Wednesday night and has now replaced it with an unplanned out-of-sequence update.

Microsoft itself points this out in the Windows Message Center. “The June 2025 security update for devices running Windows 11 version 24H2 was released and has been rolling out incrementally since June 10, 2025. However, we have identified a compatibility issue affecting a limited number of devices running version 24H2. These devices will instead receive the unplanned update KB5063060, which was released on June 11, 2025,” Microsoft explains there.

Windows Update: Anti-cheat software causes problems

In the description of KB5063060, which upgrades Windows 11 24H2 to build number 26100.4351 – instead of 26100.4349 through the regular Patchday security update –, Microsoft's developers discuss the issue in more detail. “This update resolves an issue that can cause Windows to restart unexpectedly when users launch games that use the Easy Anti-Cheat service. Easy Anti-Cheat installs certain games to improve security and prevent cheating in multiplayer online games,” the company writes there.

Microsoft is automatically distributing the unscheduled out-of-sequence update via Windows Update and Microsoft Update to devices that have Easy Anti-Cheat installed and have not yet received the regular Patchday update KB506842. Microsoft would like to point out that this is a cumulative update and that it also contains all the security fixes and improvements from KB506842.

On Wednesday night this week, Microsoft released the June Patchday security updates for various systems. The software patches plug security holes in Internet Explorer components, for example, which are already being attacked in the wild and abused by criminals. The updates should therefore be installed without fail.
