According to OM Digital Solutions, the new OM-5 Mark II represents a consistent further development of the predecessor model. With a weight of only around 418 grams (including battery and memory card) and dimensions of 125 mm Ă— 85 mm Ă— 52 mm, it remains pleasingly compact. In combination with the standard zoom lens M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-45mm F4.0 PRO, the total weight is a moderate 672 grams.

The manufacturer has paid particular attention to outdoor suitability: the housing of the OM-5 Mark II is sealed against splash water and dust in accordance with the IP53 standard and is frost-proof up to –10 °C. An integrated Supersonic Wave Filter (SSWF) ensures automatic sensor cleaning through vibrations and thus prevents dust particles on the image sensor.

The camera grip has been ergonomically redesigned to ensure an improved feel and a more secure hold. This model does not have an optional additional handgrip.

The OM-5 Mark II is available in the classic black and silver color variants. For the first time, a limited special edition in sand beige is also available, with a color scheme inspired by natural tones.

At the heart of the OM-5 Mark II is still the 20.37 megapixel Live MOS sensor, which was already used in the previous model. The TruePic IX image processor has also been retained.

An autofocus system with 121 phase-detection points ensures fast and precise focusing. According to the manufacturer, the integrated 5-axis image stabilization compensates for up to 6.5 exposure levels (EV). With compatible Sync-IS lenses, this range is extended to up to 7.5 EV, which enables longer freehand exposure times.

The new features of the OM 5 II are limited to the camera software and improved ergonomics. Nothing has changed with the sensor and image processor.

A novelty is the adoption of the menu structure of the OM-1 series, which should contribute to a clearer and more intuitive operation. A newly added CP (Computational Photography) button provides direct access to a range of computerized shooting modes:

  • High-resolution shooting: Freehand mode at up to 50 megapixels, as well as the ability to shoot at up to 89 megapixels (typically from a tripod).
  • Tripod shooting with high resolution: Precise detail reproduction through combined sensor-shift shooting.
  • Live ND: Simulation of neutral density filters (ND2 to ND16) for long exposures without a physical filter.
  • Focus stacking: Automatic creation of focus series with up to eight shots (JPEG result, individual images as raw).
  • HDR shots: Extended dynamic range through automatic exposure bracketing.
  • Multiple exposure: Creative overlay of several shots.
  • Live Composite: For long exposures with selective light capture in real time, ideal for light painting or star trails.

The “Freehand Assistant” visualizes the camera stability in real time during long exposures and thus helps to minimize camera shake. With the “Starry Sky Autofocus”, the camera makes it easier to focus on stars for astrophotography, even freehand, according to the manufacturer. The “Pro Capture” function records an image sequence even before the shutter release button is fully pressed, thus saving moments shortly before and after the actual shot so that the perfect moment is not missed. The “Color Creator” allows you to adjust the hue and saturation directly in the camera to achieve the desired image look immediately.

In the video area, the OM-5 Mark II films in 4K resolution with up to 30 frames per second (fps) and in Full HD with up to 120 fps for slow motion effects. The recording time is not artificially limited. The creation of vertical videos for social media platforms is also supported, as is use as a high-resolution webcam via the USB port.

Two new OM-Cinema profiles expand the creative possibilities for video recording with different contrast gradations. An integrated recording lamp (tally light) signals the active recording status. For beginners, 22 scene modes are available that offer optimized settings for different recording situations.

A new feature on board is a USB-C port, which can be used to charge the battery – but only when the camera is switched off. Power supply or charging on the move is also possible via a power bank.

Optional accessories include the F-5AC USB mains adapter (40 euros) and the RM-WR2 wireless remote control (100 euros). The latter is dust and splash-proof in accordance with IP57, communicates via Bluetooth over a distance of up to ten meters and can also be connected via cable.

The connection to mobile devices is made via the OM Image Share App (OI.Share) via WLAN. This enables image data to be transferred, camera settings to be backed up and firmware updates to be carried out.

The OM Workspace software is available for post-processing on the computer. It offers functions such as raw development, detailed tonal value corrections and AI-based noise reduction for raw files from compatible camera models.

With the OM-5 Mark II, OM Digital Solutions is targeting outdoor and nature photographers who are looking for a particularly compact and robust, weatherproof system camera for their adventures. The model continues to position itself in the ambitious entry to mid-range segment and represents an evolution of proven technology with sensible improvements to details, rather than heralding a revolution with fundamental innovations.

The market launch of the OM-5 Mark II is planned for the beginning of July 2025. The recommended retail price for the camera body is 1,300 euros. In a kit with the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-45mm F4.0 PRO or the M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm F4.0-5.6 II, the price is 1,700 euros each. The camera will be available in several color variants. The sand beige version is strictly limited and only available while stocks last. OM Systems is offering the camera including a second battery and binoculars at the start of sales.
