This week's pictures show a selection of fascinating shots: unusual perspectives and shimmering backlighting inspire us to dream.
The world is full of exciting motifs – sometimes spectacular, sometimes very quiet and hidden. Our gallery photographers walk through the world with their eyes wide open and have captured a wide variety of motifs. Atmospheric plays of light meet exciting perspectives – from flying dolphins to glowing spider webs.

Snowy owl

Gallery photographer JensonR has captured this impressive portrait of a snowy owl. With its beak open and eyes wide open, the animal seems to be showing its emotions and gazing urgently at the viewer. The bright yellow eyes stand out strikingly against the white plumage and lend the picture a powerful expressiveness.

With the right zoom lens, zoos can be a real paradise for animal photographers. In the picture Together we are many by mangela, a group of meerkats are eagerly waiting to be fed. The light comes from the front, illuminating their faces and creating some interesting silhouettes from the group.
