“We have great news for you: our loyalty program will now be easier, more flexible and more valuable than ever before,” rejoices an email from Media Markt and Saturn that is currently landing in the inboxes of existing customers. In it, the brands of parent company Ceconomy solicit approval for merging the myMediaMarkt and mySaturn accounts.

When logging in, the website now asks for permission to merge the Media Markt and Saturn accounts.

The company explains the advantages for customers by stating that the points received for purchases from mySaturn and myMediaMarkt will be merged. The points from Saturn and Media Markt can then be viewed in one place and converted into coupons for the store of choice “– and redeemed directly”, as the request now states after logging into one of the online stores.

The online stores merge the log-in under the brand from which those affected register. Anyone who logs in to Media Markt can log in to Saturn with the same access data after approval; the old password for the Saturn access expires and thus becomes invalid. Of course, this also works the other way around. The process also merges the purchase history and wish lists for the respective offers. They can then be viewed equally in both online stores.

For confirmation, Media Markt or Saturn will send a confirmation code to the e-mail address that interested parties must enter to merge their accounts. A success message will then appear stating that it may take up to three hours to update the points account.

The merging of the online accounts may serve as a further indication that the parent company Ceconomy may abandon one of the two brands in the future. Around two weeks ago, the question arose whether the Saturn brand would now disappear. Saturn stores are closing in many cities, with Media Markt often moving in. Since the beginning of the year alone, 14 Saturn stores across Germany have been converted to Media Markt.
