Amazon is working with "Dune" director Denis Villeneuve on a new "James Bond" film. The tech company announced this on Wednesday. In addition to director Villeneuve, Tanya Lapointe, Amy Pascal and David Heyman are to be involved as producers.
There are no details yet about content, actors or even a release date. The fact that Amazon is planning a new "Bond" film has been known for several months at the latest, when Amazon promised a "fresh, exciting new chapter" in the Bond series at CinemaCon.
"Many new missions"
With Villeneuve, it is now clear who will be directing the new "Bond" film. "Some of my earliest memories of going to the movies are connected to 007," Villeneuve comments on the announcement. "I grew up watching James Bond films with my father since 'Dr. No' with Sean Connery." Villeneuve celebrated international success with his "Dune" films, both of which won several Oscars. The Canadian had previously directed "Arrival" and "Blade Runner 2049".
Villeneuve describes himself as a "die-hard Bond fan" and promises to honor the tradition of the agent film series. Interesting: Villeneuve wants to "pave the way for many new missions" – This suggests that several film appearances are also planned for the new Bond.

Creative differences of opinion
In February, it was announced that Amazon's film studio was taking full control of the film rights to James Bond. To this end, Amazon's MGM Studios founded a joint venture with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, into which the films and associated rights will be transferred. The partners involved announced on Thursday that the creative control over the future of the series would also be transferred to Amazon. Previously, Broccoli and Amazon had often been at odds over the future direction of the "Bond" films.
A new James Bond is not only coming to the big screen: Danish studio IO Interactive is developing an action adventure game called "007 First Light", which is set to be released in 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The "First Light" Bond is portrayed in the trailer as a largely blank slate: He is not modeled after any of his movie role models, but is IO's own interpretation of the world-famous super agent.
