Chinese manufacturer Unihertz, known for its unusual smartphones, has successfully funded a new version of its Blackberry-style “Titan” smartphone on Kickstarter. The Titan 2 is set to score points with “modern” features such as 5G, a faster processor and Android 15. It is to be delivered from October 2025.

Like its predecessor, the Titan from 2019, the new model also has a square screen with a physical keyboard underneath, making it strongly reminiscent of the classic Blackberries. The screen has a diagonal of 4.5 inches and a resolution of 1440 Ă— 1440 pixels.

The backlit keyboard is in QWERTY layout and has function keys as well as letter keys. Additional functions can also be added to each individual letter key, which users can access with a long or short press.
The keyboard is also touch-sensitive and can be used to scroll screen content such as websites or documents. The cursor can also be controlled by swiping movements on the keyboard.

A special feature of the Titan 2 is a small screen with a diagonal of two inches on the back, which has a resolution of 410 x 502 pixels. The screen can display notifications and widgets and can also be used as a viewfinder for selfies.

In addition to the rear screen, there is also an eight MP telephoto camera with 3.4x zoom and a 50 MP main camera; a 32 MP front camera is integrated on the front. Other features include Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, an infrared interface, dual-band GPS and an FM radio. The fingerprint sensor and programmable buttons on the side have been carried over from the first Titan.

The Titan 2 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 eight-core processor with up to 2.6 GHz, which is accompanied by 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage space. According to Unihertz, the new model is not only more powerful than the first Titan, but also slightly slimmer, although it is still anything but thin.

The device is still 10.85 mm thick and weighs 235 grams. This makes it 68 grams lighter than its predecessor. The battery is 5,050 mAh and supports wired charging with 33 W – wireless charging is not on board.
The promised Android updates for the Titan 2 do not meet the EU requirements of five years after the end of sales, which have been in force since June 20. The manufacturer has only promised two updates up to Android 17. The manufacturer will also not provide monthly security patches. Instead, Unihertz intends to “occasionally release important security patches and system updates”. Major software bugs will also be fixed.
