This week's pictures show the special in the everyday and the sublime in small moments. With a flair for light, perspective and atmosphere, our gallery photographers capture a wide variety of motifs, from a snow-covered volcano to floral explosions of color to a tiny beetle in the spotlight.

Teide 3

(Image: Reiner von der Schlei )

Reiner von der Schlei's analog photograph from 1975 shows a dry, volcanic landscape on the Canary Island of Tenerife. Various shrubs and grasses in the foreground glow in the warm sunlight. Green bushes dominate the center of the picture, while a snow-covered volcanic cone stands out against the clear sky in the background. The composition uses strong contrasts between light and shadow to create depth and atmosphere.

Purple dahlia

The bright pink-purple flowers with golden yellow centers stand out vividly against the dark background. Rontrus ' picture looks like an artistically staged shot, with a clear focus on texture, color and mood through light modeling.

Jens Waldhofer asked himself the question: How do you photograph a building that has already been photographed thousands of times? For him, the answer lies not in the perfect composition or the special light, but in the moment. Some images only remain tangible for a fraction of a second. On the day the photo was taken, he was out and about in Dresden with his wife. He tells us: "This picture was taken spontaneously from the café, through the gap between two parasols. Not a classic view of the Frauenkirche. Ignoring expectations to find the unexpected. That's street photography for me."

Concentrated down to the last crumb

(Image: Juni20250604)

A small, fluffy prairie dog sitting upright in the warm sunlight and nibbling its last bite was captured by Juni20250604. His comment on the picture: "I'm pleased with how close I got to the animal and how clearly details like the fur, the crumbs in the paws and the hair sticking out show up. I'm particularly pleased that the effect of the picture doesn't immediately give away the fact that it was taken in a wildlife park". The focus here is clearly on the animal, while the foreground and background recede due to the soft blur.

Moon with crater shadow

In this detailed close-up of the moon, its cratered landscapes and surface structure are clearly visible. Konrad Blum's image shows the moon in a phase between half and full moon, with a sharp contrast to the black night sky.

Which one was ours again?

Numerous red-and-white striped beach chairs are crowded together on a beach. Only one blue and white one stands out from the crowd. Behind it stretches a long pier. How are you supposed to find your beach chair there? The sky is clear, the sea calm and the beach disappears into the red and white mass. bS_mr captured this moment in TravemĂĽnde and reports on his photo: "I only managed to take this photo when the scene was empty and the face of the one beach chair user was covered by the flag."

At The Top

A striped potato beetle crawls over a shiny ring against a black background. The light highlights the fine structure of the metal and the bright colors of the beetle in an atmospheric way. A minimalist yet modern composition. Gallery photographer actioreactio pursues his passion for macro photography here and explains: "The picture was taken in my small home studio. This requires a lot of patience and sensitivity. Because even small details such as the position of the legs, the antennae and the rotation of the body are crucial for the overall picture later on."
