Windows Update Preview: Now also available for Windows 11
Microsoft already provided Windows 10 with the June update previews on Wednesday. Now it's also the turn of Windows 11 PCs.

After Microsoft distributed the preview of the non-security update components of the upcoming July Patchday update for Windows 10 on Wednesday, users with Windows 11 devices are now also getting their turn. Microsoft has been distributing the previews for Windows 11 versions 24H2, 23H2 and 22H2 since Friday night. The PC-to-PC migration assistant stands out, for example, which is now set to land on computers following the announcement at the end of May.
In a support article, Microsoft discusses the components of the update preview for Windows 11. The KB number for 24H2 is KB5060829. It raises the build number of Windows 11 24H2 to 26100.4484. The developers emphasize some improvements in particular. For example, the taskbar now adjusts the icon size when space is tight, keeping all apps visible and easy to access. The behavior can be adjusted in the settings. By default, Windows reduces the icon size when the taskbar is full, but there is also the option to always leave icons at their original size and select "Never" or to always reduce icons with the "Always" setting.
Simplified Windows move
Microsoft is now distributing the PC-to-PC migration wizard. This allows files and settings to be transferred from an old PC to a new one when it is set up. This works via Windows Backup, which uses cloud storage to store files and settings. Apps should also be transferred – Microsoft is still not giving any details on this. The step could simply be carried out by installing from the Microsoft Store, with only the settings ending up in the cloud storage. However, Microsoft does not mention the full functionality, only that a landing and pairing page is now displayed in the Windows backup. The part for importing during installation will follow later, but the Redmond company does not mention a specific date for this.

When sharing links or web content via the Windows Share menu, Windows now shows a preview of the content. For the EU, Microsoft has made small changes to the choice of default browser. If the newly set browser registers additional file and link types, Windows will now also accept these. Windows will also pin it to the Start menu and the taskbar. If the browser registers for PDF files, Windows displays a one-click button to change the default program for opening PDFs.
Microsoft also lists other minor improvements and bug fixes in the support article. The update preview is available as an optional update via the Windows Update search in the Windows settings. As some changes will be activated as a phased rollout on computers, not all Windows 11 users will be able to enjoy the feature immediately.
