Anonymizing Linux: Tails 6.17 brings small updates
The developers only have minor updates up their sleeve for Tails 6.17 instead of major new features.

The maintainers of the anonymizing Linux distribution Tails have released version 6.17. The changes are manageable. Only a few small updates characterize the new version.
In the version announcement, the Tails developers write that the unlock dialog of the lock screen can now display the entered password openly if required. This helps to prevent incorrect entries, for example.

The maintainers have also updated the uBlock Origin ad blocker extension for the Tor browser to version 1.62.0. The Tor browser itself, on the other hand, comes in version 14.5.4 from Tuesday last week, which in turn is based on Firefox 128.12.0 ESR.
Minor bug fixes
The Tails programmers considered it a problem that the Tor Browser homepage was displayed when opening new tabs in the “Unsafe Browser”, which is directly online without anonymization. They have now replaced this with the display of a blank website. More of a cosmetic nature: Tails has now also gone on a bit of a diet in terms of memory. The developers have removed duplicates of processor microcode from the images.

Tails is a small Linux distribution that is primarily intended for packaging on USB sticks. These USB sticks can always be carried in your pocket and used to start computers anywhere. Tails leaves no traces on the computer, and by using the Tor network for the included programs, users can travel anonymously on the network and circumvent censorship measures, for example.
As usual, Tails 6.17 is available for download as an image for USB sticks. The Tails makers also provide an image for burning to DVDs or for use in virtual machines.
Tails 6.16, which was released at the beginning of June, only had a few changes on board. Only the Tor browser and the kernel were updated.
