No Switch 2 on Amazon US: Apparent dispute between Nintendo and Amazon

Apparently, a dispute between Nintendo and Amazon is responsible for the fact that the Switch 2 can no longer be purchased on the online retailer's US site. This was reported by the business magazine Bloomberg. According to the report, Nintendo was annoyed that third-party sellers on the Amazon Marketplace were undercutting the recommended retail price of the mobile console.

Marketplace retailers had purchased the console in large quantities from South East Asia, according to the Bloomberg report. This allowed them to offer the Switch 2 in the USA at a lower price than Nintendo had planned. According to Bloomberg, the two companies were unable to agree on a solution, which is why Nintendo is said to have withdrawn the console from sale on Amazon US.

Switch 2 available on Amazon DE – but expensive

The Switch 2 is still not available to buy from Amazon in the USA. This is not a problem in Germany: the console can currently be purchased from Amazon. However, this is not advisable – Depending on the bundle, Amazon charges prices that are significantly higher than the RRP of the Switch 2 (starting from 429,99 €).

Both Amazon and Nintendo have denied the Bloomberg report to the business magazine. “There is no such fact. We do not disclose details of negotiations or contracts with retailers,” Nintendo said somewhat nebulously. Amazon wrote that the claims made by Bloomberg were inaccurate.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold extremely well even without Amazon US: Within just four days, 3.5 million consoles were sold, Nintendo announced a few weeks ago. This was the most successful console launch in the company's history. The first Switch took around a month to sell 2.7 million units. It is likely to be the most successful launch of a video game console of all time.
