The global IT distributor Ingram Micro has fallen victim to a cyberattack. The website is in maintenance mode for German customers. The company has reported an ongoing system outage.
As a listed company, Ingram Micro published an ad hoc announcement on Saturday. "Ingram Micro has recently discovered ransomware on certain internal systems. Immediately after identifying the issue, the company took steps to secure the relevant environment. This includes proactively taking certain systems offline and implementing additional countermeasures", the company writes there.
"The company has also initiated an investigation, with the assistance of leading cybersecurity experts, and notified law enforcement." Ingram Micro is working diligently to restore the affected systems so that it can process and ship orders. "The company apologizes for the disruption this incident has caused to customers, vendor partners and others", concludes the brief stock exchange note. The incident has not yet had a significant impact on the share price.

Ransomware: No details clear yet
Further details are still unclear. Ingram Micro writes about ransomware, but the cyber group behind it has not yet made any public statements. It is very likely that a ransom demand has been made, but the company has not mentioned the amount. Ingram Micro has also not provided a timetable for when the systems will be operational again.
Last week, it was reported that cyber criminals in Norway had gained control of a dam on the Risevatnet reservoir. They were able to control its valves for hours and had them fully open.
