The Switch 2's USB-C slot is one of the biggest technological mysteries of the new Nintendo console. Many supposedly universal USB-C gadgets do not work with the Switch 2, such as cameras, docks, and power banks. At least manufacturers of some products were able to establish compatibility with the Switch 2 with firmware updates. This was reported by the US technology magazine The Verge, which took a closer look at the Nintendo console's USB-C slot in recent weeks.
As part of these investigations, two accessory manufacturers told The Verge that Nintendo is probably deliberately sealing off the Switch 2's USB-C slot with encryption. Nintendo therefore does not want the Switch 2 to work with unofficial USB gadgets.

Is a cat-and-mouse game looming?
There are now several firmware updates for such gadgets that can establish compatibility with the Switch 2, including for the Elgato Webcam MK.2 and various docks from Avermedia. These cases show that manufacturers can overcome Nintendo's lockdown in principle. However, there is a possibility that Nintendo will lock these gadgets out again with its firmware update. There is therefore the threat of a cat-and-mouse game, as we have seen with YouTube's fight against Adblocker.
It remains to be seen whether Nintendo really wants to get involved in such a mudfight or simply accepts the compatible third-party devices. The company has not yet commented on the compatibility issues with its USB-C slot.
The Nintendo dock, which can be used to connect the Switch 2 to a TV, is included in the scope of delivery. However, the official camera (starting from 43,12 €), which allows you to use Nintendo's GameChat video calling feature, must be purchased separately.
