Users of Outlook.com and Outlook clients, among others, may currently have problems accessing their mailboxes. Microsoft is reporting disruptions to the end customer cloud systems that the private customer software accesses.

On the status website for Microsoft's cloud services, the current restrictions can be found under “Microsoft Consumer Products”. The issue affects Outlook.com, the Outlook mobile client, and the Outlook desktop client – but is not limited to these. According to the Redmond company, users are unable to access their mailbox using any of the possible access methods.

The issues have existed since shortly before midday on Wednesday. “We have identified the root cause of the issue and have begun deploying a fix,” Microsoft writes. “We expect the fix to take an extended period of time due to our 'Secure Change Management Process'.” Those affected should therefore regain access to their emails in the foreseeable future.

Microsoft also announced that Copilot for private users was also disrupted on Wednesday afternoon: “Users may have experienced issues with chat and image uploads in Copilot”. The engineers apparently found the cause quickly: “We have successfully distributed a repaired version of the triggering service change.” According to Microsoft telemetry, the issue was successfully resolved.

Cloud systems are always susceptible to disruptions. Last week, for example, Microsoft had to admit to disruptions to Exchange online access. Solving the issue took days. Information was only available for administrators who have elevated rights in Microsoft's communication systems (Microsoft365-Message_Center).
