An end to the trending page on YouTube
After a decade, YouTube is parting ways with its trending page, which featured popular videos. There are now too many trends.

The video platform YouTube is discontinuing its trending page and the "Trending Now" list. Since 2015, both could be accessed via the YouTube homepage and provided an overview of the videos that are currently particularly popular. However, both user behavior and the emergence and number of trends have since changed. The platform giant therefore wants to rely on other tools.
With the trending page, there was a central location where YouTube collected videos from all categories whose click figures were currently soaring. However, while amateur videos were still the core offering on YouTube in 2015, there are now a large number of professionally made short and long videos that can hardly be collected centrally. Google, which also owns YouTube, announced in a blog post that YouTube Charts would be a modern replacement. YouTube emphasizes that the existing Gaming Explore page will continue to exist in the future.
YouTube Charts as the successor
YouTube Charts will offer more specific categories such as music videos, top podcasts of the week and trending movie trailers. Further content categories are to be added in the future. Personalized recommendations and the Explore page with non-personalized recommendations will remain.

Personalization is basically the keyword that can be used to describe the reason for the change on YouTube. "Today, trends are made up of many videos created by many communities of followers, and there are more micro-trends being followed by diverse communities than ever before," emphasizes Meaghan, the author of the blog post.
Viewers are also increasingly finding out about trends – in different places on YouTube, from recommendations and search suggestions to shorts, comments and communities. These changes would have resulted in a significant drop in visits to the Trends page, particularly in the last five years. YouTube is not giving an exact date for the end of the trending page and list. However, the changes are to be implemented "in the coming weeks".
