The next wave of redundancies is rolling in at Intel. This time it affects not only management, but also Intel's core business. In the USA, Intel has reported 3782 redundancies to the local authorities as required by law. The site most affected is Oregon, where Intel operates its most important semiconductor research and development plant, Fab D1X. The reason for this is the poor business figures with continuing losses.
Intel has laid off 2392 employees in Oregon as of July 15, 2025. The official "Oregon Rapid Response Activity Tracking System" breaks down which positions are affected. Engineers and technicians in particular have to go. At the top of the list:
- 325 Module Equipment Technicians
- 302 Module Development Engineers
- 126 Module Engineers
- 88 Process Integration Development Engineers
- 55 Yield Development Engineers
- 44 Process Integration and Yield Technicians
These employees were mainly responsible for the development and maintenance of production machines such as lithography systems for exposing silicon wafers. They were also involved in the production start-ups with new manufacturing techniques, for example to increase the chip yield to economically viable levels.

Oregon continues to shrink
The local newspaper The Oregonian reports that laid-off employees generally receive 13 weekly salaries and 1.5 more per year of employment. In addition, most laid-off employees will receive health benefits for one year.
According to The Oregonian, Intel has already streamlined its sites in Oregon from 23,000 employees at the beginning of 2024 to 20,000 later in the year. Nearly 2,400 additional layoffs would now equate to another 12 percent reduction.
Intel is laying off 110 employees in Austin, Texas, 584 in Santa Clara, California, and 696 in Chandler, Arizona. The exact position descriptions are not provided by the authorities. Both semiconductor plants and research centers that develop processors are apparently affected. Further layoffs in the USA and worldwide are to follow.
