Meta is probably delivering the feature most requested by German-speaking users: The AI assistant Meta AI can now also be used in German. This means that you can ask for information, take photos and videos, reply to calls and text messages, and control media and volume in German. All completely hands-free. Previously, only English, French, Italian, and Spanish were available as options.

The language can be changed in the Meta AI app; under Device settings > Meta AI > Language and voice. Meta AI is activated with the voice command "Meta AI".

Meta AI for Meta's AI glasses has only been available in Germany since the end of April. The update at that time also included a live translation function, but only for English, French, Italian, and Spanish. It should now also be possible to translate from and into German. A function that we missed in our AI test of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

German language support also applies to the Oakley Meta HSTN AI glasses launched in June, which are marketed to sportspeople and athletes. The limited edition has been available to pre-order for 549 euros since July 11. The rest of the collection will be available over the summer for 439 euros in six frame and lens combinations.

The main difference between the Ray-Ban Meta glasses and the new Oakley Meta glasses is twice the battery life and the ability to record videos in 3K instead of just Full HD. Despite its sporty focus, nothing has changed in terms of splash protection: like the Ray-Ban Meta, the Oakley Meta HSTN also offers protection in accordance with the IPX4 standard.

Meanwhile, Meta is investing in the long-term future of its AI eyewear: The company has reportedly acquired a three percent stake in eyewear partner EssilorLuxottica, an investment worth 3.5 billion US dollars (around 3 billion euros). EssilorLuxottica is the world's largest eyewear manufacturer and owns brands such as Ray-Ban, Oakley, Persol, and many more. Meta and EssilorLuxottica signed an agreement last year that extends the partnership into the 2030s.

According to several reports, Meta is planning further eyewear models in cooperation with Oakley and Prada. There are also growing indications that Meta will present smart glasses with an integrated heads-up display for the first time in the fall, designed for simple applications such as camera and map functions or displaying smartphone notifications.
