AMD & Intel: Price war in the mid-range processor class
Intel's affordable Arrow Lake processor drops to almost 170 euros. AMD's Ryzen 5 9600X doesn't go quite as far.
The Core Ultra 5 225F (starting from 144,39 €) has dropped in price even further this week. The price reductions were made in two stages: at the end of June, the processor cost just under 230 euros, at the beginning of July around 200 euros and now it is available for less than 175 euros.
This corresponds to a price reduction of 24 percent within three weeks. The Core Ultra 5 225F is Intel's cheapest desktop processor for the current LGA1851 platform. It runs with mainboards that use a chipset from Intel's 800 series.
Similarly, the Core Ultra 5 225 (starting from 164,79 €) variant with usable integrated graphics unit has also become cheaper. Starting from 255 euros in June, the price reduction is even slightly higher at 27 percent. On the CPU side, both models are identical. They combine six performance cores with four efficiency cores and achieve clock frequencies of up to 4.9 GHz.
According to our information, the price reductions for the Core Ultra 5 225 and its F version come from Intel. They are therefore not linked to discount campaigns and will remain in place until further notice. This explains why numerous retailers have reduced prices almost simultaneously.

Ryzen 5 9600X lags behind in terms of price
AMD's six-core Ryzen 5 9600X (starting from 191,93 €) has also fallen in price, albeit to a lesser extent. Compared to June, the price has fallen by around nine percent. As the Core Ultra 5 225(F) and Ryzen 5 9600X are similarly fast, the recommendation has so far been for the cheaper AMD model, also due to the better upgrade prospects of the AM5 platform.
Now the Core Ultra 5 225F is almost ten percent cheaper than the Ryzen 5 9600X. If every euro counts in budget PCs, the difference can be decisive. Both models are the cheapest models from the current desktop processor generation and are similarly fast.
Other CPUs have also become cheaper recently, but sometimes only as part of special offer days.
