Eight processors from AMD's new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series are available from retailers in Germany and Austria. Depending on the model, they use 24 to 96 CPU cores with Zen 5 architecture – they largely correspond to the Epyc 9005 alias Turin server processors.

As usual, AMD differentiates between the Ryzen Threadripper Pro for workstations and the non-Pro models for high-end desktop PCs (HEDT). The latter appear in three variants: The Ryzen Threadripper 9960X (starting from 1425 €) makes do with 24 CPU cores, the 9970X (starting from 2400,63 €) uses 32 cores and the 9980X (starting from 4705,99 €) 64 cores.

The full processor configuration with 96 cores is only available as a Pro variant in the form of the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9995WX (starting from 11298,99 €). At the bottom is the 16-core Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9955WX (starting from 1587,89 €). It also comes with the large I/O die, meaning it can provide 128 PCI Express 5.0 lanes.

To use all 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes, the Pro models require a WRX90 mainboard. The retail offer is limited – Asrock and Asus each offer one board. WRX90 motherboards have eight memory banks for the eight RAM channels of the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9000 (octa-channel RAM).

The processors also run in the TRX50 mainboards, but are then limited to 48 usable PCIe 5.0 lanes (plus plenty of PCIe 4.0) and four RAM channels (quad-channel RAM). The non-Pro variants only work in conjunction with TRX50 mainboards. In addition to Asrock and Asus, Gigabyte also offers these. Overclocking functions such as Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) and EXPO memory (Extended Profiles for Overclocking) are enabled.

BIOS updates for all WRX90 and TRX50 mainboards are available on the respective product pages.

Various retailers plan to deliver both the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9000 and the normal Ryzen Threadripper 9000 in the coming days.
