Amazon brings slightly cheaper Kindle Colorsoft with slight cutbacks

Amazon is now offering two new models of its color Kindle Colorsoft. This e-book reader with color display is now also available at a slightly lower price with only 16 GB of memory instead of 32 GB and in a version for children. However, in addition to the halved storage space, customers also have to accept other reductions, although the new Kindle Colorsoft is only 30 euros cheaper than the first "Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition".

The latter was launched in October 2024, when Amazon presented new Kindles with a color display and a focus on notes. This included the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, Amazon's first color e-book reader. According to Amazon, the colors would help with the search in the covers, improve the display of photos and images in the e-books and enable colored markings in the texts. In addition to the color display, this model offers a front light with automatic adjustment, wireless charging and weeks of battery life.

New Kindle Colorsoft with fewer functions

With the new Kindle Colorsoft, Amazon has not only cut the storage space in half from 32 to 16 GB, but has also removed wireless charging and the front light that automatically adjusts to the surroundings. However, the brightness and color temperature of the Kindle Colorsoft can still be adjusted manually. This should make the glare-free 7-inch display easy to read both in bright sunshine and in the dark.

As usual, Amazon includes a USB-C cable for charging, which can be used to fully charge the Kindle Colorsoft in two and a half hours using a 9-watt power adapter. The dimensions of the new Kindle Colorsoft with 16 GB are the same as the Signature Edition with 32 GB, but the weight has been reduced slightly from 219 to 215 grams. Both Kindle Colorsoft are IPX8 waterproof, so electronic books can also be read in the bath and on the beach.

Kindle Colorsoft Kids with cover, warranty and free subscription

The new Kindle Colorsoft Kids also comes with 16 GB of storage space and is practically no different from the other new color e-book reader. However, Amazon packs the model for children in a colorful cover, with a choice between the Adventure River and Star Time designs. It also comes with a two-year warranty and a 12-month subscription to Amazon Kids+ for free access to books, games, videos and apps. The normal Kindle Colorsoft, on the other hand, offers three months of Kindle Unlimited with unlimited access to millions of e-books.

This is included in the purchase price of the Kindle Colorsoft of 260 euros, making the new model 30 euros cheaper than the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. The Kindle Colorsoft Kids is priced in between at 280 euros. All of these color e-book readers can be ordered from Amazon now and should be available for delivery within a few days.
