Game worlds from the text prompt: Meta rolls out GenAI tools in Europe
Meta uses generative AI to simplify the creation of virtual worlds for its own Metaverse platform Horizon Worlds.

Meta's GenAI tools can be used to generate 3D models including textures, skyboxes, sound effects, ambient sounds and TypeScript code for self-designed game worlds based on text prompts free of charge. With these functions, Meta aims to reduce the development time of virtual worlds from several weeks to just a few hours. The AI tools were initially only available in the USA, but were later introduced in other countries and are now also available in the EU.
The number of generations is limited: Up to 100 requests for 3D models, 50 for skyboxes, 200 for sound effects and ambient sounds and 1000 for TypeScript code are possible per day. Depending on the task, generation can take several minutes.
The worlds created are reserved for Meta's metaverse platform Horizon Worlds, which is available for the VR goggles Meta Quest, mobile devices and the web. The game worlds are created in the Worlds Desktop Editor, which is currently only available for Windows PCs. The program was released in Early Access in February and replaced the previous option of creating game worlds directly in virtual reality using simple tools.

Next step: AI generation of entire game worlds
Generative AI has been finding its way into game development for some time now. Content can now also be generated using AI in engines such as Unity and Unreal as well as in UGC editors such as Roblox Studio, for example via native functions, plugins, or the connection of external services. In the long term, Meta wants to create an alternative to established metaverse platforms such as Roblox or Fortnite and could score points in AI-supported content generation.
The tools mentioned above are not the end of the story: Soon, Meta wants to be able to generate not only individual assets, but entire game worlds via text commands. Also planned are AI-controlled NPCs with whom users can communicate using their voice.
With the introduction of Worlds Desktop Editor at the beginning of the year, Meta expanded the list of countries in which money can be earned by selling virtual items in their worlds. This also includes Germany. However, only just over 50 percent of the revenue remains with the creators.
