Alibaba presented its first self-developed smart glasses at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai. The wearable has a camera, microphones, speakers and, unlike Meta's product, an integrated heads-up display.
According to Alibaba, the smart glasses support hands-free calling, music streaming, real-time translation and transcription. The AI functions are powered by Alibaba's Qwen language model and use the multimodal capabilities of the Quark AI assistant. The company also promises a long battery life and high-quality images on the display.
Market launch planned for the end of the year
The glasses are deeply integrated into the Alibaba ecosystem. They can access the company's map service and support users when walking and cycling with on-screen navigation, pay via Alipay, compare prices on Alibaba's e-shopping platform and display travel notifications from its own online travel platform.
The AI glasses are due to be released in China at the end of 2025. The price and exact specifications are not yet known.

Alibaba is following the example of Xiaomi, which has already launched AI glasses in China. The big role model, however, is Meta: the company has kicked off a new tech trend with its Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Google, Samsung, and Apple are also working on similar wearables but have not yet presented their products. According to various reports, Meta will present smart glasses with an integrated display for the first time in the fall.
