Is "Light of Motiram" a brazen clone of "Horizon: Zero Dawn" and "Horizon: Forbidden West"? The striking resemblance that amazed numerous gamers on the release of the trailer for the upcoming Tencent game has not gone unnoticed by Sony. The Playstation manufacturer and publisher behind the "Horizon" games has now filed a lawsuit against Tencent to prevent the release of "Rise of Motiram".

"Rise of Motiram" infringes both the registered copyright of the "Horizon" games and the trademark of "Horizon" main character Aloy, Sony writes in the statement of claim. Sony's argumentation is based, among other things, on numerous proof images that show undeniable similarities between the "Horizon" games and the promo material for "Light of Motiram".
Not only do the robot dinosaurs and the main character show great similarities –, but the color scheme, environmental elements such as tall grass and even the lettering appear to be strongly based on the "Horizon" games. "Light of Mortiam" is simply a copy, Sony writes in the statement of claim. The lawsuit was filed at a district court in Northern California.

Tencent allegedly tried to acquire a license
Another juicy detail emerges from the text of the lawsuit: Tencent allegedly tried to license Sony's "Horizon" brand for its own game. Tencent argued that this would allow it to expand the "Horizon" series to the Asian market. However, Sony rejected this offer.

After Tencent finally released the trailer for "Light of Mortiam", Sony contacted Tencent again to address concerns about the game. Once again, Tencent tried to persuade Sony to grant an official license. Sony once again refused and insisted that the game could not be published. Sony now wants to enforce this through legal action. Tencent has not yet commented on the allegations.
