New VR games in August 2025: "World War Z VR" & "Grit and Valor: 1949"
Strategy and survival fans will get their money's worth in August. In addition, "World War Z" will receive its first VR implementation.

With "World War Z VR", "Grit and Valor: 1949" and "Frost Survival VR", three new titles await VR fans in August that focus on different facets of survival – from zombie hordes and real-time strategy to the fight for survival in the icy wilderness.
World War Z VR
Saber Interactive is bringing the well-known zombie series to virtual reality for the first time with "World War Z VR" on August 12, 2025. The horde shooter will be released for Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S and PC VR via Steam. Based on the film of the same name by Paramount Pictures and the successful video game, the title puts players in a single-player experience with a first-person perspective. The focus is on fending off massive swarms of zombies: up to 200 undead appear on the screen at the same time.

There are seven playable characters to choose from, with whom New York, Tokyo and Marseille must be freed from the zombie hordes. Each mission is accompanied by an AI unit, whereby weapons and abilities can be customized. According to the developers, the enemies react dynamically to your own playing style and are supplemented with special zombie types that can be fought in three difficulty levels.
Grit and Valor: 1949 – VR Edition
"Grit and Valor: 1949", the mix of real-time tactics and roguelite released in March, will receive a VR edition for Meta Quest, Playstation VR2 and SteamVR on August 21. The experienced team at nDreams, which announced the VR blockbuster "Reach " in June and is known for VR hits such as "Synapse", "Fracked", "Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord" and "Little Cities", is responsible for the VR conversion.

In "Grit and Valor: 1949", players experience an alternative version of the year 1949, in which Europe is under the control of the Axis powers. As the general of a mech unit, troops must be commanded from a bird's eye view, tactical retreats ordered or the arsenal improved between missions. On Quest 3, units can also be directed in real time using hand tracking. The title combines roguelite mechanics with a tabletop-like look and is designed to offer a high degree of freedom of choice.

Frost Survival VR
Wenkly Studio, which has already gained its first VR experiences with "Survival Nation" and "Elven Assassin", is bringing a frosty survival adventure to Meta Quest headsets and SteamVR on August 14. "Frost Survival VR" will combine sandbox gameplay with psychological elements. Players find themselves in a deserted icy landscape and have to build a base, craft tools and procure food.

Not only does physical survival play a role here, mental health must also be taken care of. If this is neglected, reality and hallucinations become blurred: Sounds, creatures and apparitions can not only frighten, but actually harm. In addition to the solo game, the title offers a co-op mode with cross-platform multiplayer. Friends with different VR headsets can collect resources together, isolate shelters and defend themselves against dangers such as hunger, cold or wild animals.
