The classic role-playing game "Gothic" will not receive a remake until next year. Developer Alkimia Interactive announced on Steam and elsewhere that the "Gothic 1" remake originally announced for this year will not be released for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S until early 2026.

However, console owners can already get a taste of what's to come in the form of a playable demo. The 'Nyra's Prologue ', which has been available for PC since February, is now also available to download for PlayStation and Xbox consoles. It is a separate game section that will presumably not be included in the main game.

Those who want to catch up on the trilogy in a more faithful form on consoles will also be able to do so next year. THQ Nordic has also announced a "Gothic Classic Trilogy". These are only slightly adapted adaptations of the first three parts, with gamepad support and updated controls. They will be released in 2026 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. Ports of Gothic 1 and 2 have already been released for Nintendo Switch.

THQ Nordic also revealed to Tech4Gamers initial ideas for a possible 'Gothic 2' remake. Whether the title will actually exist is not yet certain, but the publisher has already explained some possible differences compared to the remake of part 1: "Fortunately, there is far less in "Gothic 2" that needs to be mechanically changed or refined, as I think it's already a pretty solid package and has fewer plot or story gaps that need to be filled," the THQ Nordic spokesperson told the hardware magazine.

In the remake of Part 1, however, the team will add some content to the game world that was not quite completed at the time. This includes the abandoned mine, which can now be explored. THQ Nordic also mentioned changes to the story, additional side quests and a "new treatment of the orc culture" in an interview with Tech4Gamers.

Piranha Bytes first published its classic role-playing game "Gothic" in 2001. The Ruhrpott studio no longer exists and its employees were made redundant last year.
