Galaxy A17: First retailers list Samsung's budget phone before the announcement
Samsung's budget smartphone from the Galaxy A series is already available to order before the official launch. The Galaxy A17 comes with six years of updates.

Just a few days ago, Samsung talked about launching new models in the Galaxy A series, among other things. Although the Galaxy A17 has not yet been officially unveiled, various European retailers are offering it at a price of just over 200 euros.
The Galaxy A17 extends the manufacturer's current A series, which Samsung launched at the beginning of March 2025 and includes the Galaxy A26, A36 and A56. Its direct predecessor, the Galaxy A16, was released in October 2024 and has become a bestseller according to data from Counterpoint Research. It was more successful than the Galaxy S25 Ultra in the first quarter of 2025, losing out only to Apple's iPhone 15 and the 16 series.
Galaxy A17 is thinner than its predecessor
The Galaxy A17 5G, as it is known in full, is similar to its predecessor in terms of its 6.7-inch screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate and Full HD Plus resolution. What is new, however, is the front glass with Gorilla Victus and the back made of glass fiber-reinforced plastic instead of “Glastic”. Glastic is a protection that consists of an extremely thin layer of glass between two layers of plastic and is quite susceptible to scratches.
With a thickness of 7.5 mm, the new model is also slightly thinner than the Galaxy A16, which has a height of 7.9 mm. The other dimensions of 164.4 Ă— 77.9 mm are identical.
The Exynos 1330 processor from 2023, which Samsung produces using a 5-nanometer process, has also remained the same. The 5000 mAh battery and the memory options with 4, 6, and 8 GB of RAM and 128 and 256 GB of flash memory have not changed either. The MicroSD slot is now officially approved for memory cards with up to 2 TByte instead of 1.5 TByte.
Wide-angle camera with OIS
The rear triple camera with 50 megapixel wide-angle, 5 MP ultra-wide angle and 2 MP sensor for macro shots is largely identical to its predecessor. However, the wide-angle camera now has optical image stabilization (OIS). A 13 MP selfie camera is integrated on the front. The IP54 certification with protection against dust and splash water is identical to its predecessor.

The long software support, which Samsung had already promised for the Galaxy A16, is a rarity for an entry-level smartphone: The A17 receives Android updates and security patches for a full six years. This means it is also on the safe side regarding EU ecodesign requirements. It will apparently still be delivered from the factory with One UI 7 based on Android 15.
In Germany, the smartphone is listed in black, blue, and gray with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of mass storage. In Spain, a variant with 8 + 256 GB costs around 309 euros. It is unclear when Samsung will officially unveil the device; an obvious date would be around IFA, which takes place at the beginning of September.
